The arrest of Chance Comanche, a 27-year-old center affiliated with the Stockton Kings, the NBA’s Sacramento Kings G League team, by FBI agents has sent shockwaves through the basketball community. Comanche stands accused of first-degree kidnapping in connection to the disappearance of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers, a medical assistant from Washington.

Comanche, who played a G League game against the developmental team G League Ignite in Henderson, Nevada, on December 5, was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail on Friday. The Kings swiftly responded to the situation, releasing Comanche from the team shortly after his arrest.

Rodgers went missing on December 6 while on a trip to Las Vegas, where she reportedly got into a car with 19-year-old Sakari Harnden, also facing a first-degree kidnapping charge. Harnden was arrested in Las Vegas on December 13 and is being held on a $500,000 bail. The criminal complaint against Harnden alleges that she held or detained Rodgers against her will with the intent to kill her and/or inflict bodily harm.

The disappearance of Rodgers has been described as out of character by her family and friends, emphasizing her stable job and the commitment she had to her family and pets. The unsettling situation has raised questions about the events leading up to Rodgers’ disappearance and the involvement of both Comanche and Harnden.

Comanche, a 6-foot-10 center, went undrafted out of the University of Arizona and had a brief stint with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2022-23 NBA season. His G League career included appearances with the Stockton Kings, where he demonstrated solid contributions in scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking.

The NBA and the Kings organization have not yet provided official comments on the matter. The investigation is ongoing, and both Comanche and Harnden are scheduled for court appearances in the coming days.

Who Is Chance Comanche?

Chance Comanche, born on April 14, 1996, is an American professional basketball player who gained attention for his college basketball career with the Arizona Wildcats and his subsequent journey in various leagues, including the NBA G League.

Comanche, a 6-foot-10 center, showcased his basketball prowess during his high school days at Beverly Hills High School, where he graduated in 2015. His impressive senior season statistics included averages of 20.1 points, 16.0 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game, leading his team to a Southern Section 3A title.

His college career began at the University of Arizona, where he played for two years (2015-2017). During his sophomore season, Comanche significantly improved his scoring and rebounding averages, earning a reputation as a reliable contributor on the court. However, he declared for the 2017 NBA draft but went undrafted.

Following his undrafted status, Comanche joined the Drew League, a pro-am league, before entering the NBA G League. He played for teams such as the Memphis Hustle and Canton Charge, showcasing his skills with averages of 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

In 2021, Comanche ventured into The Basketball League, playing for the Enid Outlaws and delivering standout performances, including a 43-point game. He also had a brief stint with Yeni Mamak Spor in the Turkish Basketball First League.

The Stockton Kings signed Comanche in 2022, marking his return to the NBA G League. Later, he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in April 2023, making his NBA debut. Unfortunately, his career took a tumultuous turn when he rejoined and was subsequently waived by the Stockton Kings in 2023, following his arrest by the FBI in connection with a woman’s disappearance in Las Vegas.
