The Philadelphia 76ers have started making moves to help their roster in the 2023-24 season after a slow start to free agency. The backup big position has been addressed through the signing of Mo Bamba.
Bamba will be joining the 76ers on a one-year contract and will have to fight to get minutes behind Joel Embiid.

Bamba was on the Orlando Magic to start the previous season before making his way to the Lakers on a midseason trade. He struggled with injury with the Lakers and ultimately didn’t play in the playoffs before the team declined his team option to make him a free agent.
The 76ers have swooped in and now have a shot-blocker who can stretch the floor to soak up Embiid minutes. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds across both his stops last season.
How Will The 76ers Build Their Roster?
Philadelphia hasn’t been able to make any moves in the free agent market, given the uncertainty with point guard James Harden. Harden is expected to be traded, but the team is yet to find a suitable trade partner. They have to build the roster out around Embiid sooner rather than later, with free agent Paul Reed still waiting to see if the 76ers will bring him back.
The only major move they’ve made is signing Patrick Beverley, who, funnily enough, is also a former Laker and was traded by the team to acquire Bamba. Now they’re teammates. The 76ers currently have 11 players on their roster, so more signing will be coming, unless they’re keeping space to absorb multiple players in a Harden trade.
Georges Niang and Jalen McDaniels are notable names who have already left the team in free agency.
