Over the last few years, Joel Embiid has become one of the top players in the NBA. The Philadelphia 76ers superstar perfectly fits the definition of how a modern-day center should play in the league.

Embiid has also led the 76ers to great regular seasons in the last two years or so. Despite that, the 29-year-old is still in search of winning the first MVP award of his career. There is optimism that Embiid may finally win the honor this season. If Joel indeed becomes the MVP of the league, he will create history.

“This will be Joel Embiid’s 14th missed game of the season. Just one player in NBA history has missed 12+ games and still won the MVP award that season – Bill Walton in 1977-78, who missed 24 games.”

Joel Embiid has always had a tough time staying healthy for the entire season. It’s one of the biggest reasons why he has fallen short of Nikola Jokic twice in the MVP race.

But this season, many believe that Embiid will finally win the award over his rival. Moreover, as we mentioned earlier, if the 76ers superstar wins it, he will create history.

Embiid is currently averaging 33.3 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG while shooting 54.5% from the field and 34.1% from deep. On top of that, he has helped the 76ers reach a 49-26 record in the Eastern Conference. That said, it’s no surprise that Embiid is the favorite to win the MVP award this season.

Joel Embiid Called Out The Media’s Double Standards

Being a frontrunner to win the MVP award always comes with a lot of expectations from the media and fans.

NBA analyst Shams Charania recently revealed Joel Embiid’s thoughts on the double standards that the 76ers superstar has to face due to the MVP debate.

“Not necessarily,” said Embiid. “I don’t care about the pressure that everybody puts on me. All I care about is the pressure that I put on myself to win. People have been talking about who has the most pressure to win. People want to mention me. I’m not at the top of that list. I’m not a two-time MVP, I’ve never made First Team All-NBA, I’ve never won anything. So why is there pressure on me to do something when there are guys that have won two MVPs, a bunch of MVPs, and haven’t done anything either?”

Embiid may not have said any names, but it seems awfully obvious that he was talking about Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic.

Jokic has won back-to-back MVP awards over Embiid and hasn’t been to the NBA Finals either. But there are times when the media do not destroy Jokic, unlike how they treat Embiid.
