The Los Angeles Lakers season started off nightmarishly bad but took a turn for the better when Anthony Davis started playing like a bonafide MVP candidate. He and LeBron James filled people with hope just for the Lakers to muster a 13-17 record 30 games into the season.
As happens with AD during the season, he got injured and is now expected to miss a month with a foot injury. This means another LeBron James carry job that will see the Lakers be the 12th or 13th seed in the West and miss the playoffs, as the Lakers fear Davis might be out for 2-3 months because of his foot.
Anthony Davis’ foot injury could sideline the Lakers forward for longer than 1 month sources tell @BallySports.

AD being out for that long is the Lakers’ death knell. They might not make trades if AD can’t be on the floor to capitalize on them, so the Lakers hopeful season should be done now, especially given their loss to the Phoenix Suns without their stars.
Should The Lakers Give Up On The Season?
The only thing to win from the season is being the host of one of the most iconic moments in basketball, when LeBron James will surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer in NBA history. With AD gone, LeBron’s scoring rate is only going to go up, as we saw last season.
As far being competitive goes, the Lakers might as well let Russell Westbrook’s contract expire and keep all future assets to go into the summer of 2023 with the ability to sign a top free agent and still have the future assets to make trades with other players on the roster.
