The Los Angeles Lakers have been trying their best to trade Russell Westbrook this entire offseason. Russ is earning a huge salary and, quite frankly, is not at that level anymore.
Obviously, it means that the Purple and Gold view him as a negative asset right now. But trading Westbrook right now is easier said than done. The entire NBA is aware of the Lakers’ stance about Russ, and they are not making it easy for the Lakers.
It was recently reported that the Lakers have reportedly contacted at least five teams to accept a trade for Brodie. Unfortunately, none of the teams have been interested in an offer provided by the iconic NBA franchise.
The most probable scenario right now is that the Lakers will start their new campaign with Westbrook present on the roster, whether they love it or hate it.
David Aldridge Wants the Lakers To ‘Ben Simmons’ Russell Westbrook
NBA analyst and insider David Aldridge recently joined a podcast where he talked about a lot of things. One topic was, realistically, how could the Lakers ship off Westbrook? Well, DA has an interesting idea for the franchise that might do the trick.
(Starts at 39:28)
“I don’t know how you could possibly expect there to be a real season in LA with them two in the roster together. Even if they can’t trade him, you have to tell Russell just go home. You just gotta have to tell him that. No, I’m serious! That’s what you gotta do. Just Ben Simmons him.”
This method might sound really harsh, but it’s better than the Lakers struggling to even make it to the playoffs for two seasons in a row.
While DA wants the Lakers to rely on this desperate measure, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith believes Russell Westbrook will have a comeback season. Which of these predictions will be true? We will find out in the coming months.
