While The Big German (Dirk Nowitzki) is far from his prime, his durability, loyalty, and veteran leadership have been super valuable for the Mavs these past few seasons.
And believe it or not, he may not even be done setting his name in the record books. If Dirk plays for two more seasons in the NBA (2018-19 and 2019-20), he’ll become the first NBA player EVER to play in four decades.
Having been drafted in 1998, it would mean that Dirk would have played in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. The player that came closest to playing in four decades was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played from 1969 to 1989.
No doubt, Father time is unbeatable. But if anyone has ever come close to truly testing its limits, it has got to be Dirk, who is still going strong in the league despite having played over 1,400 games in his long and storied career.
