Fantasy Basketball: Top 5 Sleepers 2016/17

Jordan Clarkson

A new NBA season is right around the corner. For some, that means a new Fantasy Basketball season is on the horizon as well. There are many crucial decisions to make during a Fantasy Draft.

Each pick can make or break your team. Here are five potential sleepers to take in your next Fantasy Draft that could be in for a big year.

5. Derrick Rose

After two lackluster seasons in Chicago and a somewhat surprising trade to the Big Apple this summer, Derrick Rose looks to be undergoing a career reset. Although he is not what he once was in 2010, Rose has shown that when healthy he can be an efficient scorer and still produce.

Rose averaged 16.4 ppg over 66 games last season and if he can stay healthy and continue to produce there's no telling what Rose is capable of. Picking Rose late in your draft may have people laughing but there is potential for a big payoff.

4. Kent Bazemore

Kent Bazemore has gone from overlooked role player to starter. Last season Bazemore set career highs in nearly every category. Coming off an off-season in which the Atlanta Hawks traded Jeff Teague and lost Al Horford in free agency, expect Bazemore and his sharp shooting to be a key part of the new-look Atlanta Hawks.

Bazemore should average more points per game that last season (11.6) and see his minutes skyrocket. Drafting Bazemore in the middle rounds of your draft would be smart especially if you're looking for guys to fill out your lineup. Bazemore is poised to have another breakout year.

It's a new era in LA and although the spotlight seems to be on D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, and 2016 second overall pick Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson is a player who could also have a big year for the Lakers. Clarkson is coming off a season in which he averaged around 15 ppg which is better than his previous total of 11 ppg.

It should also be noted that Clarkson averaged more points at SG than PG. Drafting Clarkson is a low-risk move considering his minutes, and point totals should be making a significant increase this year.

2. Dennis Schroder

After a summer of moves, it seems as though the Atlanta Hawks are ready to hand over the reigns of the point to 2012 17th overall pick Dennis Schroeder. For a long time now it had been debated over whether or not Schroeder was ready to start at Point Guard.

Schroeder has developed from an overlooked role player into a starting guard and the Atlanta Hawks truly believe he is ready to be their point guard of the future. Last season although he only started in six games Schroder averaged 11 ppg and 19.2 points per 36 minutes. Expect his playing time to increase a significant amount as well.

If there is one player worth taking a risk on this fantasy season it is Schroder. He has a good shot, has an even better shot fake and is lightning quick. Dennis Schroder has all the tools to become a star in the league and now that he as earned the chance to show to the world this season very well could be his coming out party.

1. Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo and the Orlando Magic just did not work out after a stellar sophomore campaign, Oladipo found his playing time and starting role disappear last season in favor of Mario Hezonja. Now after on huge trade at the draft, the young shooting guard finds himself paired with one of the premier point guards in the league, Russell Westbrook. Expect Westbrooks level of play to elevate Oladipo.

Together, the two could possibly be another huge duo in OKC. Oladipo's numbers should once again be what they were in 2014-15, and maybe even higher. Thunder Fans and Thunder Head Coach Billy Donovan are most definitely going to be excited about the level of athleticism in the backcourt next season.

Drafting Oladipo is a smart move. He may not be available near the end of every draft but scooping up Oladipo in the middle rounds of your fantasy draft should be a big payoff.
