The world did not take kindly to Paul Pierce's most recent comments on Friday's edition of NBA Countdown, where he proclaimed himself a better athlete than future Hall-of-Famer Dwyane Wade.
Immediately after Pierce elevated his own career, folks were quick to shoot that notion down, mostly because of how statistically skewed the numbers are stacked again the Boston legend.
In this case, the numbers certainly seem to favor Wade, who is on the verge of closing his final NBA season. The most recent criticism came from Wade's own wife Gabrielle Union, who completely flamed Pierce and his approach on Twitter.
Union is obviously taking Pierce's comments very seriously and made sure to vent her frustrations to the world. In her view, Pierce did wrong by "diminishing" another man's career to hype up his own. The reviews on her statement are mixed though.
Some would say that debating the careers of NBA legends is nothing personal and has been happening for decades. Why is it a problem now? If Paul Pierce believes his career was better, even despite the stats, than who are we to try and change his mind?
Whatever your viewpoint, it has caused quite a stir within the community. It will be interesting to see if/how Pierce responds.
