The San Antonio Spurs are now searching for a new TV play-by-play voice after rumors emerged that their broadcaster, Jacob Tobey, was removed from his role after allegations involving the sister of a current Spurs player.
According to a report from Front Office Sports, Tobey is out as the Spurs’ lead voice after his girlfriend of six years accused him of cheating on her with Loren Waters, the sister of Spurs guard Lindy Waters III. The allegations went viral on social media after a series of posts from Tobey’s Instagram account.
One of the stories read:
“This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy, because I’m not. :).”

There was another one which appeared to show Tobey with Loren Waters inside a photo booth:
“Me and the new girl LorenKWaters :).”

The posts, which could have been from his girlfriend, went viral across the NBA world. Tobey later made his social media accounts private, and his LinkedIn profile also disappeared.
Shortly after that, Front Office Sports reported that Tobey had been removed from his current role.
This is an extremely delicate situation, as neither the Spurs nor Tobey has commented on the situation. Tobey’s girlfriend confirmed on her Instagram story that she was responsible for posting the messages and also confirmed their relationship is over.
“This is his now ex-girlfriend. I was visiting his family w him for for two weeks (we were on day 3) when I found out about him and Loren. He woke up. And his parents made him take down the story. Stay safe out there, ladies.”
“You can be 6 years in visiting grandparents one hour and sleeping in bed the next at his family home, and they still will cheat.”

These allegations are entirely about Tobey’s personal life, but you can understand why the Spurs had to make such a decision. An alleged relationship with the sister of an active Spurs player is beyond the scope of a typical off-court controversy.
Tobey had been viewed as one of the NBA’s rising young broadcasters. He joined the Spurs before the start of the 2024-25 season after working as an anchor in Denver and was already calling games for Fox Sports and Pac-12 Network. But this bombshell allegation has brought his young career to a halt for now.
As of now, none of the people involved have made any public comments beyond the explosive social media posts. The Spurs are yet to release a statement addressing Tobey’s sudden departure as well.
What started as a private dispute has become one of the most viral off-court stories of this offseason. This incident shows how personal controversies can spill into professional workplaces and have drastic consequences for the people involved.
