NBA 2K has officially unveiled its cover athletes for NBA 2K27, with Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose as the three athletes who will feature on the three editions of the game.
The basketball franchise once again features an NBA superstar, a WNBA superstar and a legend on its cover. Wembanyama will appear on the Standard Edition, Clark is the face of the Deluxe Edition, and recently retired Derrick Rose will grace the Ultra Edition.
The game is scheduled to be released on September 5, with the Deluxe and Ultra editions having one week of early access starting from August 28.
For Wembanyama, this selection marks a great start to such a young career. The San Antonio Spurs superstar becomes the first player in franchise history to be on the cover of an NBA 2K game, which is a major honor. The image chosen also makes history as the first NBA 2K cover to feature the cover athlete’s tattoos, which is a clear nod to one of Wemby’s biggest hobbies of his career.
Last season was his best one out of his three to date. He averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 blocks, won the Defensive Player of the Year award, finished third in MVP voting, made the All-NBA Team and the All-Defensive Team. Wemby led the Spurs to the NBA Finals, where they lost 4-1 to the New York Knicks.
Caitlin Clark continues to add to her growing list of honors as the face of the Deluxe Edition. The Indiana Fever superstar has become one of the biggest names in basketball, helping grow the WNBA’s popularity with her deep range and record-breaking performances.
But Derrick Rose will obviously get the most emotional honor of the trio.
The former MVP is on the Ultra Edition, which serves as another celebration of one of basketball’s most loved players. Rose’s journey from the youngest MVP in league history to overcoming shocking injuries has made him one of the most respected figures in the sport.
The Standard Edition includes the base game at $69.99. The Deluxe Edition, priced at $99.99, adds 100,000 VC, MyCAREER and MyTEAM bonuses, along with early access. The Ultra Edition costs $149.99 and has everything from the Deluxe Edition, along with 350,000 more VC, Season 1 Pro Pass, future Pro Pass bundles, exclusive MyCAREER gear and premium MyTEAM player rewards.
Fans won’t have to wait long for the first look at the game either. NBA 2K confirmed the first gameplay trailer will be out on July 28th, which gives fans a look at the new game.
