With the newest installment in the NBA 2K series only a few months out from release, screenshots and ratings of some of the game's best players have begun to circulate the internet.
It all kicked off with a screenshot of Giannis Antetokounmpo -- the standard edition cover athlete -- to show off the graphics of 2K19, and was promptly followed by a few other players, including LeBron James in his new-look Los Angeles Lakers uniform.
Some of the ratings, however, caused a stir, including a certain rookie almost being rated a 90 overall after a single season. Join us as we look at five NBA 2K19 overall ratings that may or may not piss off a few fans.
5. Jayson Tatum - 87 Overall
The Boston Celtic rookie had a great start to his NBA career, and if it were almost any other year, he would have been a shoe-in for Rookie of the Year honors. However, he faced stiff competition from Ben Simmons and Donovan Mitchell, coming third in the ROY race at the end of the season.
Despite coming third, Tatum was rated 87 overall, the exact same as Simmons and Mitchell, which comes as a head-scratcher. Don't get us wrong, Tatum is a special talent, and will be one of the best players in the NBA one day, but both Simmons and Mitchell had better rookie seasons than Tatum individual-wise, so to consider the trio equal seems a bit odd.
4. Carmelo Anthony - 91 Overall
If we're being honest here, Carmelo Anthony's best days are behind him, even if he was named an All-Star not even two season ago.
Melo's first season in OKC was just sheer disappointment, averaging a career-low in points, less than 20 per game for the first time in his career. Anthony started off 2K18 with a rating of 84, so anything more than that, especially a 90+, would be insane.
3. DeMarcus Cousins - 90 Overall
Unlike Carmelo's rating above, Cousins overall has been confirmed by 2K as 90 overall, and for a player coming off a season-ending injury, even if he was an All-Star talent before going down, 90 seems especially high.
Not to mention the fact Cousins decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors on a one-year deal worth $5.3 million, a 90 overall for DMC almost completely ruins the video game aspect of 2K19. The Warriors will already be boasting at least 2 players over 90 overall in Curry and Durant, Klay will be a borderline 90 overall, most likely 88-89, so with Cousins at a 90 straight out of the box, Golden State could have four 90+ overalls to start the game.
2. Lonzo Ball -- 98 Overall
Alright, this is obviously a joke, but there are bound to be a few Laker fans out there who truly believe LaVar Ball's son deserves a 98 overall rating in 2K19.
1. Kevin Durant -- 99 Overall
Kevin Durant's rating hasn't been released by 2K at this point, but you can assume after another season resulting in a championship ring and Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors, KD's rating is going to be high.
Durant will most likely be hanging around the 96 overall mark for 2K19, but if KD somehow manages to land a 98-99 rating in this year's game, head's are going to roll.
After the season that LeBron James had for the Cavaliers, he 'only' managed to get a 98 overall, with some arguing he deserved a 99 for his efforts. If Durant was to -- unlikely as it is -- nab a 99 this year, the collective minds of NBA fans everywhere would implode.
