The Lakers are seemingly preparing for the arrival of a third star in Los Angeles. They convinced Anthony Davis to decline his $4 million trade kicker, and they traded what little depth was left on the roster for more cap space, enough for exactly one max contract.
The space is not only to pursue Kawhi Leonard, either. The Lakers have big plans to also recruit Kyrie Irving.
Obviously, there is no way the Lakers can get both. In fact, if they do sign either Kyrie or Kawhi, they will have to use minimum deals to fill out the rest of the roster.
But clearly, signing that third superstar remains their priority this summer. Kyrie and Kahwi are different players and will add different elements to the team, but both have strong a connection to the Lakers.
They will join LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, and head coach Frank Vogel as the franchise looks to compete for a title next season.
