2019 NBA Free Agency: Jimmy Butler Will Consider Heat, Lakers

In a report by Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, Jimmy Butler has no intention of opting into his $19.8 million player option for the 2019-20 NBA season. He will become, to nobody's surprise, a free agent.

Butler, 29, is no doubt seeking what could be the final max contract of his career. And as a solid two-way player, and 4x All-Star, he deserves every penny.

The bigger question is where he might end up given the circumstances. For Philly, we know they have to make a choice between Butler and Tobias Harris, who are both entering free agency seeking big paydays. There is no guarantee Philadelphia will choose the former Marquette University star. There is no guarantee he will even want to stay, either.

Rather, for Jimmy Butler, he will be keeping all of his options open this summer -- options that will likely involve the Lakers and Heat, among others. Going back to Haynes' story, there is mutual interest between him and the Lakers. In a separate report, Butler would also listen to Miami if they were willing to offer the max, per Tim Reynolds.

While Butler's priorities may seem a bit unclear, we can expect money to be a big deciding factor in this case. In L.A., with LeBron, the chance for earnings outside of an NBA paycheck may very well be enticing enough.

But as is the case with so many other stars hitting the end of their contract in June, we should be prepared for anything.
