It has been a harsh reality for the Knicks this summer. Their free agent targets are either facing serious injury, or are on the path to sign elsewhere.
They are forced to look at alternative options, with DeMarcus Cousins reportedly being in the mix.
Cousins signed a one-year veteran minimum deal with the Warriors last summer after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, he suffered additional injuries throughout the season and failed to prove he is worthy of a max deal.
This summer, he will likely be looking for another short-term contract, where he can step into a bigger role and hopefully an even bigger contract next summer.
In terms of options, the Knicks are running out fast. This summer, despite a myriad of names being available, they are losing ground on most of them. Cousins will not change the game for them, but he will add optimism for the season ahead -- and the chance to help a superstar regain their form.
