3 Reasons to Watch the Game of the Night: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors

Warriors @ Clippers

The new age rivalry resumes tonight when two teams in the top of their conference finally face off. The Clippers and the Warriors both have both taken the league by storm, and this matchup should do the same.

When L.A. star Blake Griffin said of the Warriors: “I wouldn’t call this a rivalry. They’re the better team. They have the upper hand” That was last season. Last season, when the Warriors were in the midst of their magical 73-9 regular season record. Most people back then agreed with Griffin, as the Clippers and Warriors just seemed on two different levels.

But with the way the two teams have looked so far THIS season, is it time we START calling it a rivalry? The Clippers (although struggling a little as of late) have been a force so far this year, and had the number one spot in the West until a short time ago. The Warriors have been playing great as well, with Klay finally finding his stroke again. With both these teams playing like contenders, a matchup between the two would be a thing to see.

We get the first taste of this brewing rivalry tonight when the Warriors meet the Clippers at Staples Center. Basketball betting odds make a Warriors favorite against the Clippers. So in case you aren’t hyped enough already, here are three reasons to get hype for this Warriors vs Clipper matchup:

1. Chris Paul vs. Stephen Curry

A matchup of two top level point guards in the league should equal quite a show. Curry has a history of putting up big numbers against the Clips. In their last meeting in March, Curry dropped 33 points. Chris Paul, on the other hand, only scored 13. Can CP3 stop Steph to win the game, or will Curry light up the Clippers yet again to pull his team to victory?

2. Battle for the Western Crown

This game is more than just an exciting matchup. Whoever wins the matchup tonight, has a better chance to win the West later. And in a league where home court advantage matters, having a guaranteed home court advantage through the playoffs. This game could change the course of the West standings for the rest of the season.

3. Draymond Green vs. Blake Griffin

With all eyes on the Curry/CP3 matchup, THIS one will surely fly under the radar. Two brought riders, who both have great all around games. Will Draymond be able to stop Blake in the post? Will Blake be able to contain Draymond' playmaking?

The infamous Laker/Celtic rivalry is one that will probably always remain unmatched. But this Clippers and Warriors rivalry could one day become a much bigger story than people think. Tonight, these two teams will play yet another game and may just add a bigger divide between these two teams.
