Anthony Davis Speaks Up On DeMarcus Cousins' Departure

When the Pels traded for Boogie a year and a half ago, the team tried to sell it as a duo for the ages.

While the project wasn't necessarily a disaster, it was far from being successful, with the Pelicans literally being a better team while Cousins was off the floor. Now, DeMarcus has signed a minimum deal with the Warriors, after reports circulated that New Orleans failed to offer him a deal to his liking.

For the first time, Anthony Davis spoke in depth about the decision of his former teammate to Bill Reiter of CBS Sports.

"I found out through my TV actually. It happened, I was watching it on my TV and I just saw it pop up. Of course, I was a little shocked, but I know DeMarcus. And he made the best decision for him and his career at that time and for his family."

"I understand it's a business, of course, I definitely would have loved to keep going but at that point, I'm not sure what was going on with his situation or what was going through his head. It's a lot, coming from being traded and then feeling like you deserve a max contract and then you ... rupture your Achilles. It was a tough situation, it was tough for him. I think he made the best decision for him and his family. I'm happy for him. We'll be seeing him down the road and he'll just have to guard me instead of us playing with each other."

As one of the top 5 players in the game, Davis will surely be fine as he continues to improve his game and health. As long as they have him, the Pelicans could certainly do a whole lot worse.
