Trail Blazers Owner Neil Olshey To Carmelo Anthony: "You Need Us, And We Need You"

It is an interesting dynamic between the Portland Trail Blazers and their newly acquired star, Carmelo Anthony.

After a slow start, the Blazers are looking to Anthony to give them a spark and relieve some scoring pressure off of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. After a year of exile from the NBA, Melo is hoping Portland gives him enough time to re-discover his place in the league.

The Portland Trail Blazers effectively granted the wish of many NBA fans and players alike when they signed 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Blazers GM Neil Olshey described the relationship perfectly in a call to the 10x All-Star.

Portland Trail Blazers President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey had tried to get Carmelo Anthony in trades with the New York Knicks, tried to get him as a free agent post-Oklahoma City. Now, they were together on a call Thursday morning. Time had passed; circumstances had changed.

"You need us," sources said Olshey told Anthony. "And we need you."

At 35-years-old, and coming off two bad stints with the Thunder and Rockets, Anthony desperately needed someone to believe in him again. And while nobody is sure exactly what he will bring to the Blazers this season, he was the best of a limited number of options.

As one of the best scorers the game has ever seen, Melo will command respect in the locker room and could even spark their spirits back to life.

After six straight seasons in the Western Conference playoffs, it will be Anthony's job to do whatever it takes to help get them back. The Blazers will need him to step up to his capabilities if they want to turn their season around.
