It may be week one of the 2017-18 NBA Season, but that doesn't mean basketball TV analyst Charles Barkley doesn't have anything crazy to say. He always does.
Last night, he made a pretty ridiculous prediction on TNT's live television audience.
That's right, he said it's "guaranteed" that the Clippers make the Western Conference Finals. While that is certainly a possibility, the chances of this scenario becoming reality seem less than ideal. The team still has Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan to carry some of the load, they lost Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets, lost Jamal Crawford to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and lost J.J. Reddick to the Philadelphia 76ers. And while the acquisitions of Patrick Beverley and Danilo Gallinari do help, they certainly don't replace the presence of a superstar point guard.
To make matters worse, the competition in the West is no joke. Between the Warriors, Rockets, Thunder, Timberwolves, Nuggets, and Spurs, the Clippers are only the 7th best team in the Conference--at best. And to make the Western Conference Finals, they'd likely have to beat at least two of those teams in a 7-game Playoff series.
So when we say Charles Barkley went out on a limb, we mean it. The Clippers making the West Finals seems like a complete long-shot at this point. But hey, if he somehow ends up being right, he'll absolutely get to rub it on everybody else's face.
