Despite the impression that the Knicks are the favorites for Durant this summer, Chris Mannix, while speaking on Fox Sports 1’s Speak For Yourself, was quick to explain why we should not count out the Clippers in the KD sweepstakes.
Durant has been heavily influenced in the past by his free agency meetings. In the Clippers’ case, they have a chance to impress Durant by bringing Steve Ballmer, Doc Rivers, and NBA legend Jerry West. Their front-office is deep and full of names that are likely to make a strong impression on the 10x All-Star.
The Knicks, on the other hand, are less likely to be able to create that sort of impression. In fact, with as disastrous as things have been for them, their front-office personnel will likely be a hindrance to their chances.
L.A.'s admirable effort in the first-round against KD and the Warriors must also be taken into consideration. The team proved that they have heart, and are not just going to go away. For a team with no All-Stars to come together like that, must have impressed Durant.
Nonetheless, there are no promises this summer. Nobody knows what to expect in these next couple of months. We only know, that among a host of other teams, the Clippers will be making their case to lure what many consider the best player in the world.
