Damian Lillard Admits He Wanted CJ McCollum And Pelicans To Lose In The Playoffs So The Trail Blazers Would Get The Pick

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were the backcourt duo for the Portland Trail Blazers for a long time. The two players shared the court from the 2013-14 NBA season up until recently, when McCollum was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Honestly, most saw a trade coming after the two stars failed to carry the Trail Blazers to a great postseason run during their entire stint together. Now, the franchise has decided to move on from the experiment and hopefully pair up Dame with another superstar in the coming offseason.

For CJ, he has been vital in the success that the Pelicans have achieved in the second half of the season. So much so that the Pelicans have not only reached the playoffs but have tied the round 1 series against the number 1 seeded Phoenix Suns 2-2 in the 2022 NBA playoffs.

The most obvious question that popped up in the heads of fans was how does Dame feel about seeing CJ flourish without him? Well, one fan asked that on Twitter and Lillard responded to him as well.

"I wanted them to lose so we got their pick but once that was over … of course i wana see em win."

Lillard's response came in light of the Trail Blazers receiving multiple picks from the Pelicans in the CJ McCollum trade package. But since the Pelicans made it to the postseason, those picks will not have as much value as they would have had if the team missed the playoffs.

At the end of the day, Lillard seems happy for his former teammate. It's good to hear that since Dame previously revealed he felt jealous watching CJ have so much fun playing without him.

CJ has certainly moved on in his career, but will Lillard do the same? We will find out about it in the next season.
