D'Angelo Russell is feeling pretty confident. The young player has turned around his career this season while averaging over 19 points and 6 assists and an All-Star team selection.
Russell’s stellar play has brought him into the conversation for the Most Improved Player Award. Although, Pascal Siakam of the Raptors and De’Aaron Fox of the Kings are also being considered.
However, Russell is confident that he will win the award. He told Anthony Puccio of SportsNet New York:
“I’m gonna win that s**t. Watch. Put it on record. I’m gonna win it. I’m telling you, I’m winning it!”
The emergence of Russell was sparked by his departure from the Lakers, and he was able to dominate the floor with much playing time with the lowly Nets. He certainly deserves to be in the conversation for the award.
Siakam is also a front-runner for the award after raising his game for the Raptors who are striving after receiving Kawhi Leonard. Although, Russell seems to be the more dominant player who is averaging more points and assists.
Russell definitely deserves credit for turning his game around. After being drafted by the Lakers with the second overall pick, the young player came into the team under a lot of criticism and scrutiny. He has since balled out after gaining experience and being sent to a new team.
