Everything hinges on Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton for the Suns. So when the two exchanged some heated words after the team's 108-86 loss against the Blazers on Friday, it couldn't have come as very good news.
Here's the story, as reported by Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic:
Phoenix’s top two players, Booker and Ayton, exchanged words after the 10-minute cooling off period as members of the media entered the visiting locker room for the tail end of that conversation.
These two have had words before on the court, with Booker correcting Ayton on what to do on certain plays. Both have agreed to hold players accountable, but this felt different.
The two young stars weren't the only ones showing visual frustration. A number of other players were noticeably upset during and after the game, including an exchange between Mikal Bridges and head coach and Igor Kokoskov.
Where does Phoenix go from here?
They're trying to build something that'll last, but if nobody is getting along, how's that going to work?
Indeed, the Suns have a lot to figure out if they hope to turn their fortunes around. If I were them, I'd start with Booker and Ayton, because the team only goes as far as they take them.
