DeMarcus Cousins Explains Why He Signed With The Lakers

After having a difficult free agency where teams didn’t look very interested in him and some analysts dared to say there was no market for him, DeMarcus Cousins has finally found a new team in the NBA in the Los Angeles Lakers, signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal with Los Angelenos.

Boogie was reportedly ‘monitoring’ the whole situation between the Lakers and Kawhi Leonard, but now that the Klaw has chosen to play with the Los Angeles Clippers, Cousins was more than welcome to join the Purple and Gold. Now, he’s entering a new season where he believes his team has a big chance ‘on paper’ to win the title given the good roster they have.

Everybody expects him to help his new team to have a good run in the next season and that’s why his former teammates Rajon Rondo and Anthony Davis did what they needed to do in order to land the former Sacramento Kings player.

During an interview with Spectrum Sportsnet, Boogie was asked why he decided to join the Lakers, and his response was unique.

“AD, Rondo, and LeBron all kinda threw a pitch in there to get me here,” Cousins said. “I really talked a lot with Rondo. They basically kidnapped me and made me come here. But, those are two really good friends of mine, and obviously, we’ve had a chance to play and be teammates previously before this. We enjoyed our time together as teammates. We’ve always talked about teaming back up and the opportunity presented itself.”

After a single season playing with the Golden State Warriors, where he got injured once again, Cousins didn’t have many suitors this offseason. Luckily for him, Davis and Rondo remembered how good they three were during their days with the Pelicans and wanted to bring that to the Staples Center.

Having these three stars plus LeBron James makes things look good for the Lakers ahead of next season.
