Giannis Antetokounmpo is leading the race for MVP this season, but LeBron isn't too far behind. Averaging 25.7 points, 10.6 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game on 49.8% shooting, James has done a superb job leading the Lakers to the top seed in the West.
But for DeMarcus Cousins, the most impressive thing about his run this year is that he's doing it all at 35-years-old. In an explanation to Jalen and Jacoby (on ESPN) about why LeBron deserves MVP, he said the following:
"I think he's [LeBron] the MVP. He's the only player in the league right now with grey hair."
It's simple enough, really. Nobody in league history has had this been this good for this long. From 17-years-old to 35, he's still doing his thing at an alarmingly dominant rate.
Though he's lost some athleticism, Bron is more than making up for it in other ways that include passing and shooting.
So while Giannis may have the better stats, and the better record, James is doing something nobody else has before. His play, at this age, is just remarkable and it deserves to be recognized. At least, that's what some are saying.
Whether or not enough people agree to earn him the MVP trophy remains to be seen.
