Derrick Rose Reacts To The MVP Chants In The United Center

Wednesday night at the United Center was anything but normal. The Timberwolves were in town to face the Bulls and it was the return of Derrick Rose to Chicago.

Derrick spent 7 seasons with the Chicago Bulls, which was filled with ups and downs. In the 2010-11 season, Derrick Rose went on to become the youngest MVP after a spectacular season in which he averaged 25.0 PPG, 7.9 APG, and 3.4 RPG while leading the Bulls to the number 1 seed in the East.

The next season was the beginning of the fall for the former MVP. In the first round of the playoffs, Rose would tear his ACL, ending his season. This was the beginning of the young MVPs falls from grace.

Fast forward to Wednesday night, Derrick is having his best season since his MVP season. Rose was back in his hometown for the 2nd time as a visitor. Derrick bought 50 tickets for family and friends, and one could tell tonight was going to be special.

Derrick came out of the gates hot, putting up 10 points and 5 assists in the first quarter, including a circus shot in which he was able to fight through contact and make the shot over the backboard. Rose would finish the night with 24 points and 8 rebounds, leading the Timberwolves to a 119-94 win over the Bulls.

The most special moment of the night is when Rose was at the free throw line and received MVP chants from his hometown crowd.

Postgame, Rose was quoted saying:

“I had to crack a smile. It made me reminisce about some of the old days and how grateful I was to be in that position at a young age and just trying to take all of it in. With the year I’m having it was very special to come in here and play.”

Check his reaction immediately after the game.

It has been exciting to watch the former MVP continue to play at such a high level and no matter what team you root for, it is great for all of us to see Derrick Rose killing it on the court.
