The Phoenix Suns were dealt a massive blow when the league announced that Chris Paul had to miss at least the first game of the Western Conference Finals after a positive COVID-19 test.
Even so, their young core was able to get the job done and lead to a huge 120-114 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
After the game, Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker immediately FaceTimed Chris Paul to share this emotional time with him.
Their young studs did an outstanding job of holding down the fort without Paul. Booker had his first career triple-double with 40 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. Ayton scored 20 with 9 rebounds on 71% from the floor, and Cameron Pane scored 11 with 9 assists and just 1 turnover in his fill-in start.
The Suns would have never made it this far without Chris Paul. His veteran leadership and impact on both ends of the floor turned an up-and-coming team into a fierce and true NBA Championship contender.
That's why getting Paul back on the court is going to be so huge for them. They're favored to win this series and make it back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993 when Charles Barkley lost to Michael Jordan's Bulls.
Paul is a first-ballot Hall of Famer already and he'd have a strong case of being considered the greatest point guard of all time if he leads the Suns to their first-ever NBA Championship.
