The Los Angeles Lakers hit the jackpot with the arrival of LeBron James. As last season proved, however, they will need more than an aging LeBron to reach their goals.
To their credit, the team responded, following up their disappointing season with the acquisitions of Anthony Davis, Danny Green, DeMarcus Cousins, and others. Will it be enough to challenge other contenders in the West?
Here is what 3x Champion Dwyane Wade had to say about the state of the new-look Lakers.
“The talent and the roster is great top to bottom,” Wade told Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson. “It’s just going to take some time to get it together and get the continuity together.”
The Miami Heat "Big 3," the Cleveland "Big 3," the Golden State super team with Steph, Klay, and Draymond -- it all took them some time to figure things out. They did not win right away, and all faced challenges as they matured into Championship-level teams.
We can expect the same for this Lakers team. Even with Anthony Davis, LeBron, and a talented group of role-players, there will be growing pains. Either way, Bron expects to be more prepared this go-round.
“I like being uncomfortable in the offseason,” LeBron James told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon. "I like being counted out. It motivates me.”
It has been an unusually quiet few months in Los Angeles, and it seems James is doing everything he can to rally the troops for the season ahead. We can only hope that it translates to better results.
