Nobody knows when, or how, the NBA season will return. Considering COVID-19 is nowhere close to being contained in the U.S., it's very possible the season doesn't return at all.

In fact, in a chat with the crew of Inside the NBA, league Commissioner Adam Silver noted that it was possible the season could be canceled completely.

But what happens then? Do all the Championship hopefuls just enter the offseason with nothing to show for it? According to former Laker Mychal Thompson, the NBA should declare the Lakers as the Champions in the event that the season does not return.

Obviously, a cancelation would be tough for any team that believes they had a realistic shot at the title this year. But to just pick one team because of their illustrious history seems more than unfair.

The Clippers and Raptors have worked just as hard and aren't too far behind the Lakers in terms of the win-loss record and the Bucks are actually ahead of them. So, long story short, there is no guarantee the Lakers would beat any of those teams in a 7-game series.

Either way, this is a difficult time for the NBA and they have some hard decisions to make in the next few weeks and months. As they come to grips with the idea of a canceled season, coronavirus continues to rampage through the world. When will it end?
