After all the criticism and trolling he's received during his career, Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn't lose confidence. The 2x NBA MVP is ready to win his first championship this season, eight years after making it to the league.
The Greek Freak is one game away from winning the Larry O'Brien trophy and fulfilling a promise he made seven years ago. Back in 2014, Giannis vowed to take his team to the championship. The then 19-year-old was confident they could do something good in Wisconsin, warning people of what would happen in the future.
"I'll never leave the team and the city of Milwaukee till we build the team to a championship level team.." Antetokounmpo tweeted on July 16, 2014.
It's been seven years and three days since that moment, and Giannis is ready to win his first NBA Finals to put his name among the greatest European players of all time. He struggled in past seasons, falling short against big rivals, but this year is different.
The Milwaukee Bucks have come a long way and now are leading the 2021 Finals 3-2 in front of the dangerous Phoenix Suns.
This was a long journey for the 26-year-old. Still, he keeps demonstrating that hard work always pays off. Antetokounmpo can make history tomorrow if he beats the Suns, signing his name as one of the greatest Bucks of all time.
