After a record-breaking performance against the Bulls on Friday, Hassan Whiteside followed up with some words for the doubters, haters, and naysayers who have followed him for years...
“I think people have a misconception of me,” Whiteside said in Quick’s story. “I don’t know what it is, where it is coming from, I really don’t know. But my friends, we talk about it all the time … yesterday, today, tomorrow … it’s always there.”
There have been negative narratives spreading since he earned a big payday from Miami in 2016. By now, it's something that Whiteside is sick of.
“They are probably saying I didn’t put in no effort tonight,” Whiteside said. “I don’t know, I’m so sick of hearing that s***. I’m here busting my a** on defense every day. I’m so tired of it. Tired of hearing it. I came from the bottom, and I gotta hear that s***.”
After getting put on the chopping block in Miami, the 30-year-old big man is having a bounce-back year. He's averaging 14.8 points per game, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks.
Clearly, he is out to prove the doubters wrong. So far this season, he is backing up his words with a dominant performance in the paint. Hopefully, he is able to maintain that level of production.
