Here's Why The Rockets' Title Chances Just Went Down

The summer of 2018 saw a myriad of high caliber free-agents hit the market.

The Houston Rockets didn't sign any of them. Rather, they were busy giving Chris Paul a crazy new extension that'll be paying him max money at 37-years-old, losing Trevor Ariza to the Phoenix Suns, and failing to re-sign defensive stopper Luc Mbah a Moute, who recently reached an agreement with the Clippers.

Even despite all of that, it's not those moves that have the Rockets dropping in Championship contention. It's Carmelo Anthony.

CBS Sports' "SportsLine," projects the Rockets' title chances to DECREASE by .9% (4.8 to 3.9) if Carmelo chooses to sign with Houston... which is pretty much a gauruntee at this point.

For a guy that most once considered the best scorer in the league just a few years ago, saying he literally makes a team worse is saying quite a lot. We'll see if those odds have any truth to them.
