Even though the Los Angeles Lakers dominated the rest of the league from start to finish and had some impressive performances in the 2020 NBA playoffs, there are still some people who believe that they're not as good as they say they are.

That seems to be the case with Iman Shumpert, who recently said on Complex's Load Management Podcast that his 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers would definitely beat these Lakers in the NBA Finals in just 5 games:

“For sure, you f–king serious?! I mean, Rondo matches up. We not gonna violate, though. We not gonna violate him. We gonna beat em, we just not gonna violate him,” Shumpert said.

Shumpert went on to talk about J.R. Smith's impact for that 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers' team - although he barely even played with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 - claiming that he'd be this series' X-Factor

"We had the real J.R. Swish. They don’t wanna use him now, I get it. He’s older and he had spent one year out of the league, I totally understand … but we not gonna act like J.R Smith ain’t J.R. Smith," he concluded.

Obviously, there's absolutely no way of knowing this. At least, in the paper, those Cleveland Cavaliers did have three superstars in their prime in LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving, while the Los Angeles Lakers "only" had Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Those Cavs were slightly deeper and featured better shooters than this version of the Los Angeles Lakers. Then again, it feels like the Lakers were slightly better coached and that the "old" LeBron has only gotten better with time but hey, everybody's entitled to their own opinion, especially when they actually played for one of those teams.
