Jalen Rose had harsh words for Irving and the Celticd on ESPN’s Get Up morning show Tuesday.

“He’s shown that he can’t be the best player on a contending team,” Rose said of Irving. “He’s done in Boston. And are you ready for this? His teammates’ll help him pack.”

It might sound like an overdramatization, but Kyrie has not exactly been a great fit in Boston. As a ball-dominant guard, he takes away from the space-and-pace strategy that worked so well for them in seasons past. And lately, Irving has been especially bad. Overall, he has shot just 31 percent from the field in the second, third, and fourth games of the series.

Meanwhile, guys like Tatum, Hayward, Horford, and Terry Rozier have had their roles diminished.

The point is, this roster is not made for iso ball. Despite a second-round appearance, it has become evident that they will never become serious contenders with their current roster.

When it comes time for Irving to decide his fate this summer, these are the impressions that will stick. Why stay in Boston when he could sign on with a team better suited for his talents? And for the Celtics, why go through extreme lengths to convince Kyrie Irving to stay if he is not necessarily the best fit for your team anyway?
