The Philadelphia 76ers are set to announce Daryl Morey as their new President of Basketball Operations, which means that a lot of things are likely to change in the City of Brotherly Love.
Daryl Morey has made a habit of being as aggressive as they come, constantly trading away multiple assets and blowing up rosters in the blink of an eye. Perhaps, that's exactly what the Sixers need for The Process to finally go full circle.
And, according to Jalen Rose, Morey will be able to find another gem for the Philadelphia 76ers just like he did with James Harden when he wasn't a superstar:
"I think this is a great hire for Philly. The one thing that Daryl was able to do in Houston was acquiring James Harden when he was the Sixth Man in OKC and turned him into a max player and an MVP candidate," Rose started.
Then, Rose suggested that Daryl Morey would have to find the way to flip Russell Westbrook for Joel Embiid to give the Sixers a better shot at contention, while the Rockets would go back to playing traditional basketball.
"So now, if you're Daryl Morey what moves can you initially make to change the dynamic of Philadelphia? And they're going to be looking at Joel Embiid vs. Ben Simmons. If I'm Daryl Morey, I'd try to find a way to parlay Joel Embiid for Russell Westbrook and/or PJ Tucker. In Houston, they're going to have to play more traditionally, so therefore you have James with the ball in the perimeter and you have Embiid as his big. In the Eastern Conference, you have two guys in Ben Simmons and Russell Westbrook that no one is ever gonna stop from getting to the basket. No one. Both of those guys have found ways to not be able to shoot jump shots and still basically flirt with triple-doubles and Russell has been an MVP in this league," Rose said.
This is no disrespect towards Russell Westbrook whatsoever but I don't think many Sixers fans would approve of that move. Simmons and Westbrook both need to have the ball in their hands and neither of them can shoot a three-pointer to save their lives.
The Houston Rockets would gladly flip Westbrook's massive deal to land a young player with MVP and DPOY potential like Joel Embiid and run it back like the second coming of Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.
Also, Daryl Morey isn't likely to be looking forward to absorbing Westbrook's contract for the second year in a row but hey, we've seen crazier things happen in the league.
