On Saturday night, Hakeem Olajuwon chimed in on the GOAT conversation, making the controversial claim that it wasn't even fair because Jordan was the "far superior" player.
“When people start comparing him (LeBron) with Jordan, then that’s not a fair comparison,” he said, per Will Starjacki of the Basketball Network. “Jordan was a far more superior player in a very tough league, and he was very creative. That’s not taking away anything from LeBron because he is a great player, but it is not a fair comparison because Jordan is a far superior player.”
Obviously, the quote drew a lot of heat from the community, who continued to debate the subject through the next day.
Just recently, Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray liked a Tweet regarding Hakeem's quote, implying he agrees with the statement.
Obviously, Jordan played in a much more physical era. Scoring back then was a lot tougher because guys were bigger, stronger, and much more physical on the defensive end.
In this current era, James is facing much less physicality and size and seems to be able to outmuscle everyone on his way to the rim.
And while things are far from "clear" in regards to who is the better player, some will never be convinced that LeBron goes over Jordan. Hakeem Olajuwon and Jamal Murray have clearly joined that camp.
