It would take a brave person to tip someone from the Eastern Conference that has the ability to take down the Golden State Warriors in a 7 game Finals series, but former NBA player Jay Williams believes it’s possible.
During an episode of Get Up! On ESPN, Williams declared that he believes the Celtics will defeat the Warriors and end their streak in the 2019 Finals.
Williams showed no hesitancy in his decision to back the Celtics over the Warriors as he continued to describe how the Celtics line up matches up as good as anyone’s against the Warriors.
“If you talk about Jaylen Brown guarding the likes of Kevin Durant. They actually match up pretty well. Jayson Tatum can guard the likes of Klay Thompson. You have Terry Rozier who can guard the likes of Stephen Curry, or Kyrie. Granted, DeMarcus Cousins could be a matchup [problem], Baynes and company, you could throw bodies at him. You could try to throw him off his game. They actually, personnel-wise, match up better than any other team in the league.”
The Warriors have recently added DeMarcus Cousins to their already star-studded lineup and look to be the odds-on favorite for winning their third championship in a row.
Many experts still believe that the biggest challengers to the Warriors are the Houston Rockets who lost by just one game against Golden State in the Western Conference Finals. There’s every chance that a team like the Rockets could knock off the Warriors but if they reach the finals once again, it’s hard to see them losing.
The Boston Celtics finished the 2018 playoffs going out in the Eastern Conference Finals losing to LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers by just one game. Without having LeBron James in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics chances of reaching the finals for the first time since 2010 seem much more realistic.
