Following the Sixers' Game 7, season-ending loss to Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler took to Instagram to express some post-season gratitude. And, despite whatever intentions he may have had, Philly fans are convinced it is Butler saying goodbye.
As some are explaining, a simple "thank you" to the city and the team are no indications he is 'out the door.' It was a long season, and he played hard to ensure the team got as far as they could. Still, it is hard to shake the sense that Butler is waving goodbye -- even if the post does not show it.
As Philly embarks on a summer of decision making, Butler will hit free agency. The mid-season trade that brought him to the team helped, but the 4x All-Star did not have a smooth arrival in the city. From the jump, his presence was met with tension, just as his dramatic breakups with Chicago and Minnesota had ended.
By playoff time, Jimmy proved his worth, averaging 19 points on 45% shooting, often closing the most important games for the team.
The franchise will have to decide if they want to dish him a max contract or let him walk in favor of the Embiid/Simmons/Reddick lineup that they have displayed for years now.
