As the leading MVP candidate, Joel Embiid was having the best season of his career before going down with a knee injury back in March. At the time, it was a huge blow to the Sixers, and to Embiid's MVP campaign -- but it could have been much, much worse.

According to Embiid himself, the amount of pain and discomfort he felt in the aftermath of his injury led him to believe he was going to miss the season.

"When I got hurt and was laying on the floor in Washington, honestly I thought I was done," Embiid said. "I thought my season was done. The pain, how bad it was hurting. I just knew that it was something worse than what we saw after.

I was just crying and asking myself, 'Why me? Why does it always happen to me?' You know, when everything seems to be going well with the team and myself, something always has to happen. I'm glad it wasn't anything bad, and I'm able to get back on the court and help the team go on a championship run."

Unfortunately, injuries haven't exactly been a rarity for Embiid. In fact, the Philly star missed the first two full seasons of his career due to injury.

The good news now is that the guy only missed a few weeks, and seems to be picking up right where he left off. Hopefully, for the Sixers, that means a spot right back in the thick of the race for the title.
