It’s hard to argue that there’s a franchise in the NBA that has had more legendary stars play for them than the Los Angeles Lakers. Four-time MVP, LeBron James may be able to join that legendary list with a chance to lead the Lakers to their 17th championship.

One of the Lakers all-time greats Kareem Abdul-Jabbar believes that LeBron does deserve to be considered as a Lakers great. This all occurred when LeBron posted a picture on Instagram that included himself, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal, he captioned this by saying that the Lakers have the greatest starting lineup of all time. This angered a lot of fans who believe that LeBron isn’t worthy enough to be considered in this group as he hasn’t won a title yet.

Abdul-Jabbar recently spoke about how LeBron has already shown and proven to Lakers fans and the NBA that he is one of the most complete players in the league.

“He’s already shown he’s still the complete player that the Lakers wanted so I don’t think he needs to worry about that,” Abdul-Jabbar said, via Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “They just needed to put the right pieces in place around him. You can’t win a world championship with just one elite player. You need some help and I think he has that now.

“If he plays well and the team is contending and in the playoffs and advancing late in the playoffs, that should be enough. He doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone, but Lakers fans are still hungry and that’s a good sign. They want to win and they want to support the team.”

LeBron James has only played the one season in Los Angeles so far with an average of 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists. With Anthony Davis joining the team, the Lakers have a fair chance of going all the way this season and becoming a true contender for the championship.

If the franchise can win a title or two while LeBron is playing in the purple and gold, then LeBron will certainly earn his spot amongst the other Laker greats.
