Kawhi Leonard has decided to take his talents the Los Angeles Clippers, but now that everything is done and said, we get to know that the Klaw would have had a different destination if the Clippers didn’t find another star to pair up with Leonard.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Kawhi would have signed with the Los Angeles Lakers instead of the Clippers if it wasn’t for their trade for Paul George. When they traded a more than appealing trade package to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Clippers made sure to acquire George and Leonard, while also preventing the Klaw from going to the Lakers.
"Without George, they were losing Leonard to the Lakers," writes Wojnarowski while citing sources.
The Clippers were also scared that the Thunder GM Sam Presti was getting close to a trade with the Toronto Raptors involving George as well, which would have taken Leonard to re-sign with the Canadian team.
The Raptors, as Woj reported on Saturday morning, didn't have the ability to counter the Clippers' offer for PG.
