Joel Embiid has been one of the best big men in the NBA for some time now. The Philadelphia 76ers star has been praised for his potential but he hasn't been able to actually deliver in Philly. JoJo's game can be a lot better, something that would be beneficial for him and the Sixers.
Kendrick Perkins, a former big man, recently explained what must change for Embiid to win the MVP award and possibly a championship for the Sixers. Perkins believes Embiid needs to get in shape, drop some weight and that will be extremely good for him and very bad for the rest of the league. While talking with Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson about the best big man in the NBA right now, Perkins picked Embiid over any other player.
“Well, Imma say this; Embiid is number one. Karl Anthony-Towns is number two, and Ayton is number three. That’s how I rank ‘em. And when you look at Embiid, he is a generational talent.”
“And the only thing that’s holding Embiid back is his cardio and conditioning, that’s all. If he was to drop 35 pounds, you could book the MVP going to Joel Embiid. You can book that! If he was to get into shape. Like if he gets in shape, it’s OVER for the league.”
Ever since he entered the league, Embiid has been tipped to do big things. He's yet to lead his team to a championship but the potential is there. Joel can do a lot of things and this season appears to be the last chance he has to show he can be good with Ben Simmons. The Cameroonian big man is one of the best players in the league but as Perkins said, losing some pounds would put him on the next level.
