Trae Young has always been compared against Luka Doncic, a fellow prospect from his draft class. While people focused on Luka Doncic, they kind of forgot about Trae Young. This isn't to take anything away from Doncic: he is an MVP caliber player and will most certainly be in the conversation this year. Even though Trae Young made the All-Star game last season, there wasn't as much hype about him due to the Atlanta Hawks not making the playoffs.
This year though, the Atlanta Hawks have started raging hot, and are currently in possession of a 3-1 record. A huge part of that has been Trae Young, and people are finally taking notice. Kendrick Perkins was one of the people to praise Young for his performances.
In the video, Perkins also considers Trae Young a similar player to Stephen Curry, claiming he was "Steph Curry 2.0". Trae Young has a lot to do to live up to the 2 time MVP. However, Young definitely has the ability to make his own legacy in the NBA. A lot of smaller guards with range are compared to Stephen Curry: after all, he was the icon of the NBA's 3PT revolution.
Trae Young's meteoric ascension has been a delight to watch to NBA fans. He can shoot it like Curry, but also switch to being a passer in an instant. Kendrick Perkins is correct in assessing that for an opposing defense, Young is a must-stop player, even with a box and one strategy.
This year, Trae Young could further his ascension in the NBA by bringing the Atlanta Hawks to the playoffs. They signed good veterans like Rajon Rondo to help Trae Young make their push upwards in the rankings. Trae Young has rewarded their faith in him so far: he'll probably continue to do so for years to come.
