The race to the 2019-20 NBA title is officially underway once again. And as teams prepare for the restart later this month, many have already picked the favorites to win it all: one of the two L.A. teams, who have been battling for supremacy all season long.
While their talent and star-power is undeniable, not everyone is picking them to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy this summer. According to Kenny Smith, a "younger" team will be the one to do it.
“To me the guys who had the access throughout these three months have a clear advantage. I go for the younger teams. I go for, like, Milwaukee, Denver, Boston. Those teams who are young and experienced,” Smith said on Jalen & Jacoby. “Those guys, they trained differently to get ready than a LeBron. LeBron’s teams simply rise and ascend throughout the year.”
It seems as is Smith is giving the edge to younger teams based on how they play and prepare throughout the season. LeBron and the Lakers "ease" into the season and kind of coast until it's time to rise. These younger teams have been playing and preparing with more intensity throughout the regular season and may be better equipped to handle a return after a three-month hiatus.
Younger bodies are certainly more durable and adaptable. It might take other guys longer to get themselves back on track.
If this is the case, should we expect Milwaukee, Philly, or Denver to be the winners when it's all said and done? We'll just have to wait and see but something tells me it's not wise to count anyone out at this point...
