Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Says Lakers “Lost Themselves” Following Anthony Davis Trade Rumors

Even if they aren’t part of the soon-to-start NBA playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers are still making headlines surrounding their future moves and potential new players. Everybody knows about their wishes to land Anthony Davis this summer, but what many people don’t know is how good the Lakers received the news about AD demanding to be traded from New Orleans when it took place.

According to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the Lakers “lost themselves”, as he told reporters during the week.

"At the trade deadline, everybody kind of lost themselves," Caldwell-Pope told ESPN. "That's all they were worried about. … And I feel like after that, everybody kind of relaxed, calmed down and just started playing basketball and not worrying about the outside talk."

This season wasn't as good as expected by all the people who wanted to end the 5-year playoff drought the Lakers were living before the beginning of this season. Despite signing arguably the best baller on earth, LeBron James, the Californians were unable to succeed this season and increased their drought to six years.

They had huge expectations before the start of the campaign, but key players got injured along the way, including LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, and Lonzo Ball and they struggled all the year to find the good shape they had during the first month of competition.

According to Tyson Chandler, injuries had an impact on the team.

"It was injuries and then the trade rumors," Chandler said. "I wouldn't be honest if I was sitting up here not saying the same. It was one of the huge factors in the season. The injuries were tough for us because we were already a young unit. ... Having those injuries and not being able to get used to one another I think really affected us."

Now the organization has to redefine what they want to do this offseason, as there were numerous rumors about their upcoming movements but now that Magic Johnson stepped down as the team’s president, things might be a little different. Perhaps his quest to sign Anthony Davis hasn’t stopped and we’re closer than we think to see the Brow playing with the Purple and Gold.
