The NBA is currently blessed with several exciting young talents, and LaMelo Ball is one of the first names on that particular list. The Charlotte Hornets youngster has been one of the most eye-catching players in the NBA since he arrived in the league as the 3rd overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. And it’s not just the fans he has been impressing, it seems like he can also count the legendary Kevin Garnett among his admirers.

KG has never been one to shy away from making bold statements, and he declared himself a fan of the youngest Ball brother in a recent interview. In Episode 2 of his new show KG Certified, Garnett went so far as to say that he thinks LaMelo will become NBA MVP in the next 5 years.

“You know, who I love watching? The Hornets. Man, I’ve followed LaMelo through the whole YouTube half-court and all the other stuff. He’s probably one of my favorites, him and Cole Anthony. LaMelo has kind of an old-school, he moves the ball and has a high IQ. He’s got the old-school feel to him. He has a bunch of magic in him.

“I can’t wait for him to get some more size on that’s actually gonna take his confidence to another level. I got him being the MVP in less than five years because he’s dictating the league play, the style.”

While he is still a fair bit away from the level of play required to become the MVP in the NBA, Ball has shown he has the attributes and the mentality to make it happen. He has improved his output in every single major statistical category from his rookie season, scoring nearly 4 more points a game in his second year in the league. KG’s praise may be a little hyperbolic but anyone that has followed LaMelo would be hard-pressed to bet against him winning an MVP.
