As the season rages on, the possibility of Klay Thompson departing from the Warriors this summer only seems like more of a long-shot.
As the team builds upon their so-far stellar season, it is becoming evident that Klay Thompson is comfortable in his role and place with the squad. He's playing good basketball and having fun while doing it... all from the wonderful state of California. What can get better than that?
This summer, everyone is expecting Thompson to re-up with the Dubs. If he doesn't, it'll be for one reason: money. Reports indicate that Thompson is dead set on wanting a max-level contract this free-agency, and might look elsewhere if the Warriors shock everyone by giving him something less than that.
To match earlier reports, ESPN has indicated that the Lakers could become a real possibility for him in the unlikely event that the Dubs fail to give Thompson the money he desires.
“Our panel doesn’t buy that Thompson might walk in free agency, overwhelmingly predicting he re-signs with Golden State. Thompson continues to be open about his desire to return, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that if Thompson doesn’t get a full max offer from the Warriors, he could look at the Lakers.”
Thompson would be a game-changing get for Los Angeles. As one of the best two-way players in the game, and being a three-time NBA Champion, he'd provide a winner's mentality while exceeding at both ends of the floor.
If the team fails to secure another star, he'd be the perfect piece to secure next to LeBron James.
But, as is becoming the norm for this Laker team, it won't be easy. In fact, it will be almost impossible if Golden State plays it safe and offers Klay the max money he deserves.
