Mychal Thompson is the father of 5x NBA All-Star, Klay. But he's also a former Laker and helped them win back-to-back titles in 1987-88.
So when naming the best Lakers ever, there aren't many people on the planet more qualified than Mr. Thompson. On Twitter, he recently gave his All-Time Lakers roster, and honestly -- it's pretty hard to despite.
For the starters, he lists Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at center (5 NBA titles with the Lakers), Elgin Baylor at the small forward (11x NBA All-Star), James Worthy at the four (3 NBA titles with the Purple and Gold), Magic Johnson at point (5x Champion and 3x NBA MVP), and Kobe Bean Bryant at shooting guard (5 NBA titles and 4th on NBA's all-time scoring list).
The bench is not short of talent either.
There, he put Shaquille O’Neal (3 Championships with the Lakers), Wilt Chamberlain (1x Champion and 4x MVP), Jerry West (1 NBA title with L.A.), Jamaal Wilkes (3 titles with the Lakers), Gail Goodrich (1 NBA title), Pau Gasol, (2 NBA titles with the Lakers), and Michael Cooper (5 NBA titles with the Lakers).
That's a pretty solid team, but there are a few names that have a case to be included. LeBron James, for example, has only been on the team for two short years and has little to show for it. But he may be the best player to ever put on a Lakers jersey and his presence helped end the franchise's darkest, most unsuccessful era.
One could also argue that Jerry West should be a starter over Elgin Baylor, considering Baylor never won a title.
No list is perfect and there will always be a few wrinkles, but we feel Thompson did a good job naming "the twelve." What do you think?
