The Los Angeles Lakers have always been the shining light of the NBA. With their illustrious history and golden legacy, the Lakers have been among the highest valued franchises in sports.

So when Kawhi and Paul George decided to forgo the Purple and Gold jersey for a ticket to Clipper land, it took the world by storm. Kobe Bryant, a legend in Lakerland, gave his best explanation to the shocking turn of events this summer:

“I’m sure Kawhi wants to take the challenge of winning independent of playing with LeBron,” Bryant said, per Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times.

“Maybe that was the same for P.G. I think they relish the challenge of taking on something new. I don’t think it was a slight at the Lakers. It was more about circumstances and what was already here in L.A. and on the Lakers, and they wanted to take the challenge of building something new.”

Had Kawhi chose the Lakers, he would have been paired with LeBron James and Anthony Davis to form a powerful Big 3.

Not everyone is up for such an easy ride. Some, like Kawhi, want to build something up rather than join something that's already been established.

No matter your feelings on the 2x Finals MVP, that's something you've got to respect.
