Kobe Bryant has seen unprecedented success in his post-basketball career. That success includes an Oscar and the building up of his elite business empire. But recently, Bryant was the subject of a lot of criticism for his post about his youth basketball team.
The photo was taken as his team accepted fourth place in a girls youth tournament -- and the look on their faces is somber, to say the least.
He has since tweaked the post, but not before the masses caught him. Here is what it originally said:
Here’s our fourth place "winners" picture lol six of the kids in the picture stayed with me and worked every single day to get better and continue to work to this day. The 7th player (not in pic) missed this game for a dance recital so that should tell you where her focus was at this time. From the original 7 we have added a player TWO years YOUNGER (6th grade now), a player who’s team in our area folded and a player who’s family moved here from Tennessee. The beauty of coaching is growing the players from the ground up. That journey continues #Mambas
It almost sounds as if Kobe is shaming these players for not only failing to win but not showing enough dedication to the game. As young girls who are likely doing it for fun, this kind of mood did not sit well with fans.
Bryant has attempted to defuse the situation, by editing the caption, and assuring folks online that his intentions were not selfish.
His demand for "excellence" may have stretched too far this time. Then again, this could just be another case of twisting someone's words?
Whatever the case, The Mamba is not in a good light right now.
