Kobe Bryant is one of the most respected NBA players of all time. Bryant was immensely successful during his time in the league, with multiple accolades to his name. Through his 20-year career, Bryant won five NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, a regular-season MVP, and several All-Star nominations.
Because of his success in the league, Kobe became a global basketball icon. Fans around the world would flock to try and get a glimpse of the 'Black Mamba' when they got the chance. And when Kobe traveled to China for a charity game, they got to witness something truly special.
Bryant participated in a charity basketball game in China set up by Sprite. The Lakers legend was one of the few professional basketball players participating in the event and easily the best player there.
In a post on Facebook, Kobe explained his side of things. During the game, Bryant spent the first half on the bench, and his team fell behind greatly.
Being a competitive player, Bryant did not like this. His teammates then asked him if he could bring them back.
So Bryant entered the game in the second half and went on to score a ridiculous 68 points in just 15 minutes.
Granted, that he was playing against celebrities and non-athletes. But the sheer magnitude of points he scored in the limited amount of time just shows how insanely good Kobe Bryant was.
"The Sprite China 2nd Annual Charity Basketball game was a ton of fun. We played two 15 min halves with a running clock. I watched from the bench for the first half. We were trailing by 9 when I was notified that fans via text can choose a team to add 20 additional points to their tally!!! We were now down 29!! I wanted to play it cool but what the heck, the place was packed with fans who’d sang an early happy birthday to me and really wanted to watch me go to work. My teammates were down. They are all singers/actors and do not play ball much AT ALL, but they are very successful at what they do hence they are VERY competitive. They asked if I could bring them back in the second half.. "
"I didn't want to disappoint them or the fans that had paid their hard earned money for a show so I took the challenge of really using the second half as a training session for my stamina. I ran and ran and ran. I wound up scoring 68 in the 2nd and we won. Like I said, they are not basketball players by any stretch of the imagination. I was just having fun with all of them and loved hearing the crowd enjoy the show we put on."
Bryant put on a show for the fans in China that they will never forget. Getting the chance to see what Kobe could do was incredible for them. And it reminded fans of why Kobe was considered one of the best players of all time.
